Week 20, Day 3 – What Went Right Today

March 28th, 2010 No comments

Following this week’s theme, I will report only on what went right, and leave everything else for another time.

The biggest thing that went right today is that, despite having attended a banquet luncheon, I stayed within a reasonable number of calories today. Having slept right through breakfast, my first meal of the day was at the luncheon. The menu was well balanced, and I enjoyed every bite. Dessert consisted of ice cream sandwiches, and I had one. (Last year, I had 3 of them.)

When I got home, I was still pretty full, so supper was just a light snack. It’s all I needed.

Later in the evening, when I invariably wind up wanting “just a little something” before bedtime, it turned out that I was in the mood for, of all things, broccoli. Of course, it helped that there was a bowl of previously prepared, lightly steamed fresh broccoli all ready for me, and so that’s what I had as my evening snack.

When I’m done with this post, I’m off to bed, getting in an early night for a change. This is another positive thing.

In all, lots of positives today. With a good night’s sleep, I’m hopeful that this positivity will stretch into tomorrow, when I will get in some exercise in the form of an outdoor walk, or an indoor bike workout. I’d like, too, to do a bit of work with my hand weights. I’ll check back tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

Remember to accentuate the positive this week!

Week 20, Day 2 – Accentuate the Positive

March 27th, 2010 2 comments

Weight: 179
Inches: -0.75″ since 3/20

This week, I will focus my thought and attention on the things I’m doing well.

It occurred to me a few minutes ago that this new lifestyle is becoming easier. While I’m still not perfect at some of the things I need to change, other things are becoming routine.

For instance, while I’m still not sticking to a regular bedtime, it has become much easier to make good food choices. While my activity level still leaves much to be desired, there are fresh fruits and veggies in the house at all times. While I still need to remind myself to drink water, I’ve gotten very consistent with taking my daily nutritional supplements.

This is real progress. It’s tempting to think that I can now pay less attention to the things that I’m doing well, and start concentrating more on the aspects that could do with some improvement.

This week, I’m adding something new to the mix: a weekly “theme” to help me focus on a particular aspect of change that I desire. For these first few theme weeks, I will borrow some wisdom from an old song my mother used to sing.

The refrain of the song goes, “You gotta accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative, latch on to the affirmative, and don’t mess with Mr. In-between.”

So, this week I will accentuate the positive, focusing on the things that I’m doing right. I will also praise myself when I make good choices. I will devote the bulk of my energies to positivity.

I will begin each day of this week with a positive statement, as I have done above. As the week progresses, I will revisit the statements I have made, taking positive energy from them, and finding ways to manifest the ideas throughout my day.

At the end of the week, I will take stock, to see how the theme influenced my choices and my progress. Each week, I will do the same with a new theme. In time, I will know whether this tool is helpful to me.

Maybe you would like to do this along with me. That would be nice. I welcome your company and your thoughts.

Week 19, Day 4 – Pound for Pound Challenge

March 22nd, 2010 No comments

Motivation is a good thing. The more we have, the more likely we will reach our goals. I’ve just added one more motivation to my list: helping (in a small way) my local food bank. I just signed up for The Biggest Loser’s Pound for Pound Challenge.

Check out the Pound For Pound Challenge

Find ways to keep yourself motivated. It will go a long way to keeping you on track toward your goal.

Week 19, Day 2 – I’m Young Again!

March 20th, 2010 No comments

It occurred to me this morning, my energy is returning to the level it was years ago! I’m healthier, happier, more energetic, and I feel younger!

This all stems from a decision I made in October of 2009. Prior to that, my life was going nowhere, and all I saw ahead was a 6-foot hole in the ground, waiting for me to be lowered into. I was nearing my 62nd birthday, and wishing for retirement, if only for the chance to “sleep-in” whenever I felt like it. However, I couldn’t afford to retire, despite having worked at various jobs during the prior 45 years.

My involvement with Trump Network has changed my life for the better. For one thing, I’ve got more energy than I’ve had in many years. For another, I’ve lost 20 pounds so far, just by using the products. I’ve got more to lose, and I know the products will help me to do so.

This business has given me a new lease on life. Before I found Trump Network, I was looking forward to retirement, not so that I could enjoy my senior years by traveling and pursuing other exciting goals and passions, but just so that I could stop working and not have to get up in the morning. A month before I turned 62, the age of early retirement, I contacted the local Social Security office in order to start the process.

What I learned shocked me. Although I’d spent a lifetime working at some job, the monthly check that I qualified for was not enough to cover the rent and other bills, let alone offer a “life” after retirement. My dream of spending mornings in bed and afternoons “putzing” was shattered. Did I want more than that? You bet! But my energy level was so low that living the life I’d always dreamed of (traveling, pursuing my photography goals, etc.) was just not do-able for me.

When I got home from the Social Security office, I did some thinking. Something obviously needed to change. I couldn’t afford to retire, and I could barely drag myself out of bed in the morning. There had to be a better way. I put my request out to the ether. I’ve always been the helpful sort, always willing to offer my assistance to someone in need, or my advice to those who asked for it (and sometimes to those who didn’t ask, which was sometimes helpful, but not always). So, I asked for a way to help others while I helped myself.

You know, it’s true that what you think about is what will manifest in your life. The very next day, while reading the latest posts on Facebook, an ad captured my attention. It mentioned Donald Trump and a new company he was involved with. I clicked on the ad, entered my email address and waited. Within minutes, I had a link to a website containing enough information about Trump Network to consider it a viable solution to my troubles. I contacted the person whose name was on the site, and within days had started my Trump Network Independent Marketer business.

Week 19, Day 1 – Down One, Up Two

March 19th, 2010 No comments

Weight: 181
Inches: +2 since 3/12

So, my weight went down a pound, yet my measurements went up 2 inches. Now, I could attribute the inches to added muscle, but since muscle weighs more than fat, this is not likely to be the case.

This tells me that I may be losing some muscle and retaining the fat. This is not a good thing. It’s time to add consistent weight training into the mix. I’ll look up some plans and get working on that right away.
