Week 1, Day 4 – Why Jon’s body wanted to be fat

November 16th, 2009 2 comments

Jon’s body wanted to be fat for a few reasons. The biggest reason was that it was starving. Jon, like many of us, was not providing it with the nutrients it needed. So, even though he ate lots of food, the empty calories that he was ingesting was not feeding his body. Therefore, it went into starvation mode. Jon’s body thought it was in the midst of a famine, and so it held onto every calorie it got.

Jon’s body began to conserve energy, so as not to “waste” what it had stored. I’ll write about that tomorrow, so be sure to check it out.

Once Jon realized that his body was doing these things in order to protect him, he started giving it the nutrients it needed. As his body began to understand that good, nutritious food was now in abundance, the cravings changed. His body started wanting more of the good stuff, and progressively less of the junk.

Jon’s body was starving for more than just food. Many factors contributed to Jon’s body wanting to be fat. I’ll get into those in future posts. Stay with me!

In the meantime, follow the link below to check out the short video on Jon’s website. You will see photos of him at his biggest, and others of him as he is now. Not only was his weight loss effortless, but he’s effortlessly maintained his new size ever since.

Week 1, Day 3 – Introducing Jon Gabriel

November 15th, 2009 No comments

Let me tell you a little about the program that I’m following. Jon Gabriel wrote a book about the method he used to lose over 225 pounds. Like me and you, he’d tried every diet out there. He’d lose weight for a while, but soon the weight loss would stop, and the pounds would creep back on, along with a few more. You know the drill.

Jon explains how he came to realize, in a moment of epiphany, that the reason his body was holding onto the fat was not because he had no willpower. It occurred to him that, for some reason, his body wanted to be fat. This is why, despite everything he tried, his body found ways to undermine his efforts and regain the weight. It was doing its darndest to protect him in the best way that it knew how.

Not only does this make perfect sense to me, but it lets me off the hook. It gives me back my dignity with respect to how hard I’ve worked at trying to lose weight and keep it off, and that it’s not my lack of commitment or a weak will that’s making my efforts fail. My body is not trying to prevent my success; it’s only trying to protect me!

What is it trying to protect me from? Tune in tomorrow, and I’ll address this question.
